Work Faster: Keyboard Shortcuts Across the Canvas

Assemble now has a full set of keyboard shortcuts, and they change how the canvas feels once you know them.

• Spacebar (hold) pans the canvas without dropping out of an active measurement

• Ctrl + Scroll zooms in and out

• Q + Scroll zooms straight to your cursor

• Shift + D hides the measurements drawer

• Shift + T hides the toolbar

• Shift + P hides the left-hand panel

• Backspace steps back one point at a time while you are drawing

• Enter completes a length or polygon measurement, so no more double-clicking

Enter works in the Create Group modal too, so you can type a new category name and hit Enter to create it without reaching for the mouse.

Organise Like an Estimator: Cost Centres in the Library

The Library used to be hardwired to a single "1000 General" centre, which flattened everything you built into one bucket. You can now add, rename and number your own cost centres, giving you the full three-level hierarchy: 1000 Carpentry, then 1.1 Rough Carpentry, then 1.1.1 Architrave. New categories and items number themselves inside the scheme automatically.

See What You Need: Customisable Library Columns

A new Customise button beside Add item opens a Show Columns popover. Toggle Type, Unit, Markup %, Margin %, Tax %, Rounding and Used in on or off. It's saved per user, so your view stays yours. Markup % and Margin % are two views of the same number, so pick whichever way you think about pricing.

Export Right Filenames

Simple things make life easier. Excel exports now download named after the project instead of measurements-2026-07-22.xlsx, so a folder of estimates is readable at a glance. Thanks to Lilani for pointing that one out.

Find It Faster: Search and Move To

Global search now indexes Library item names, so you can pull up an item by typing its name instead of scrolling the hierarchy to reach it. And the "Move to" picker in the measurements drawer shows every category and group. It was reading a partial list before, which left most valid destinations unreachable.

Faster, Everywhere

This one was for the nerds, but thankfully everyone is benefiting from it now. Uploads outside Europe were quietly sitting on a 60-second retry timer. Users in the US and Australia could wait up to 90 seconds for a plan to open, where European users got it instantly. That's gone, and processing now takes about five seconds wherever you are. We also cleared the canvas lag several users hit when measuring and turning pages, and fixed the black border that rendered over the margins and title block on some CAD-exported PDFs, hiding the dimension strings underneath.
